Further Training Schools
YWAM England, as part of YWAM's
University of the Nations (UofN),
runs a number of further training courses to equip you for specific tasks and
callings. These courses can be taken as standalone courses, but they also fit
into the overall picture of further training with the UofN - each course
can be part of a series to fully equip you for a specific role or career
path within YWAM. Brief details of courses run in the UK are given here,
though for more information about further training within the UofN, contact
Steve Sullivan on ssullivan@oval.com.

School Of Frontier Missions (SOFM)
Purpose: Prepares you to take the transforming power of the gospel around
the world to those who have never heard it
Length: Three months' study followed by
a two-year placement (minimum) with an existing work among an unreached people
group

Introduction to Business As Mission Course
Purpose: Designed to equip YWAMers, missionaries, students and business professionals who want to be launched into Business As Mission. The training course will be hosted in Chiang Mai, Thailand, owing to its central location in proximity to established business as mission projects. .
Length: Six weeks
Where: Chiang Mai, Thailand, but available through Harpenden, Hertfordshire, www.ywamharpenden.org
Dates: January-March 2009
Cost: US$3,500 approximately
Foundations for Intercultural Studies (FIS)
Purpose: Trains you to understand the cultural, historical, religious, ideological and other issues that divide nations and peoples, and then gives you the opportunity to apply what you have learnt alongside one of several reconciliation and peacemaking initiatives.
Length: Three months

Humanities and International Studies Core Course (HISCC)
Purpose: Helps the student develop a biblical Christian worldview by examining God's work and truth, and how its expression can bring a Godly influence in every area of life. Encompasses both the humanities and science and technology, looking at the achievements and failures of individuals, society and nations, past and present.
Length: Three months, plus field assignment

School of Reconciliation and Justice
Purpose: Trains and empowers for a life of reconciliation that flows into peacemaking and justice ministries. We also seek to train teams to send them to conflict areas with a mission to reduce suffering, aid in development, speak out about injustice and seek to be a part of healing the hearts of wounded people. Our ethos has grown out of our affiliation with the Reconciliation Walk, www.recwalk.net, through the past ten years.
Length: Twelve weeks followed by a 6-8 week internship programme

Cost: Lecture phase: £1,600
Relational Peacemaking and Diplomacy Internship
Purpose: Seeks to raise up young people who want to learn how to live out a life of reconciliation as they work in areas of conflict and how to become advocates for change in unjust situations. The course is designed to offer a four-week short course followed by placement in a field situation where the student is mentored during the next four to six months.
Length: Four weeks, plus four to six month field placement

School Of Evangelism (SOE)
Purpose: Designed to release people into works of evangelism throughout Europe. Coverage includes Man (the character of the students), the Message (understanding more fully the good news) and the Method (how effectively to communicate the gospel in a post-modern Europe).
Length: Thirteen-week study phase followed by a 12-month outreach

School Of Worship (SOW)
Purpose: A five-month course (including outreach) giving students an opportunity to grow in their personal worship and worship-leading ministry. Geared towards those who have an interest in leading others into worship by singing, playing instruments, and dance.
Length: Three months plus two-month outreach

School of Biblical Studies (SBS)
Purpose: Trains you to understand and apply biblical truth, to discover for
yourself what the Bible says and how you can apply it to your life
Length: Nine months' study in three terms, plus optional outreach of 8-12 weeks.

School of Biblical Studies Core Course (SBSCC)
Purpose: A 12-week course that introduces you to the inductive approach of Biblical Study, equipping you with many tools for integrating the Word into your life.

Direct Reading Course (DRC)
Purpose: By reading broadly, gives an overview of the Bible, Church history,
theology, and Christian worldview
Length: 12 weeks

Biblical Teaching and Preaching School (BTPS)
Purpose: Prepares you for a ministry teaching the Word of God in any
cultural situation
Length: Six months, including outreaches in the UK and overseas

Support Ministry Seminar (SMS)
Purpose: For those working in support areas in YWAM, this seminar considers how to involve God in practical areas and keep Him central. Topics include Team building, How to mentor those you work with (both staff and students), Learning practical skills and Get encouraged.
Length: Five weeks

Introduction to Christian Counselling (ICC)/Developing Christian Counselling
(DCC)
Purpose: Part-time seminars providing initial training for those who
may be involved in counselling situations
Length: 50 hours, spread over one term

Community Counselling School (CCS)
Purpose: Gives you God's vision for broken, hurting people and practical
instruction for counselling situations
Length: 12-week lecture phase followed by

Children In Need (CIN) School
Purpose: A three-month lecture phase plus three-month (minimum) outreach phase, equipping students to effectively minister to the child in need and at risk.

Introduction to Primary Health Care (IPHC)
Purpose: Through 12 weeks' study and 8 weeks' outreach, equips students with prevention, health education, treatment and appropriate assessment skills to meet the physical felt needs of individuals, their families, and their communities in developing countries.
Length: Three months

Principles in Child and Youth Ministries (PCYM)
Purpose: Provides understanding and practical experience in child and youth ministries. Foundational for those wanting to work as King's Kids staff.
Length: Five months

School Of Design (SOD)
Purpose: A foundational school teaching the basics of design and giving a biblical basis for communication. Topics covered include Godly communication, Typography, Advertising, Colour theory, Logo design, and Page layout. To get the best out of this course, it is recommended that you do the School of Digital Communication (below) as well, though this is not mandatory.
Length: Three months

School of Digital Communication (SDC)
Purpose: A computer-based school for designers in today's world. Topics include cross-cultural design and presentation techniques, and exploration of a range of software by Adobe, Apple and Macromedia. To get the best out of this course, it is recommended that you do the School of Design (above) first, though this is not mandatory.
Length: Three months

School of Pioneer Leadership Development
Purpose: Two-year-long indepth leadership training with mentoring and grassroots experience in local projects, with an optional extra year of placement on the field. Aimed at young post-moderns who have a call to long-term ministry or a vision to start a new YWAM ministry or centre.

Purpose: As a small group leader on a DTS, learn leadership principles to
